A few quick thoughts

Conservatives, don't be dismayed and disheartened.  Yesterday could have been much much worse.  In the end, when the GOP returns to its senses and embraces conservative, small government solutions that work for the middle-class, things will work out.  To those in the GOP who think all you have to do is what for the libs to implode, you are part of the problem and need to go away.  Conservatives have the better ideas, there's simply no comparison.  But the libs are better at presenting their ideas, especially cloaking them so they appear to be center but aren't.

We need solid leadership of a new breed, not rehashing the same old people.  GOP wants to put retreads on by having Boehner and Blunt as head of the HR GOP.  Why should incompetence be rewarded.  McConnell, for all his issues, held the Senate together a little better but not much.  Frankly, there are so few conservative GOP senators and way too many squishy me-too dem lite republicans in the Senate.  If your answer to your opponent is to be me-too, you will find yourself in the barren tundra of the political landscape.  Stand for something.  That includes my two Senators from TX, Hutchison and Cornyn.  Both voted for the bailout package and I wish we could replace them with someone else but no chance right now.

The GOP party also needs new leadership.  Outspoken leadership.  And someone who is forward thinking, embraces new technologies, and can build a grass-roots organization nationwide.  How many states are we not competitive in now.  If you start an election by giving away 200 electoral votes, you have essentially no margin for error.

To all you libs, go ahead and gloat, do your little dances, and strut about.  You won this battle, but you haven't won the war.  The pendulum always swings the other way, sooner or later.  The more you push it, the faster it will swing back.

Update from Ohio

The wife flew up to OH from TX last Thursday to knock on doors and make calls for the McCain camp.  She sent me a text message awhile back that Republican turnout was great.  She also said they heard Secretary of State Brunner was trying to keep the polls open later but didn't know why.  I haven't been able to confirm this yet but considering everything else Brunner has done, it certainly wouldn't surprise me to see polls in urban areas of Cleveland, Cincinnati, and Columbus stay open past closing time.
